Tesco wanted a new web property to enter into the music and video download market and the commissioned Conchango – experts in consumer e-commerce to deliver this solution.

The project involved creation of a new brand identity for the the site which was targeted at core Tesco grocery users. As this user group (mainly women aged 25-40) were generally unfamiliar with music download, one of the challenges of the site was to make the download process as easy and simple as possible and as well as make the music browsing as simple as possible. Another important consideration was that the shopping experience on the site should be familiar to people who had used the Tesco grocery site which had also recently been relaunched.

The information architecture of the site had to be designed with future expansion in mind because at at launch only Music and Windows Media format music was being offered to customers. Further down the line the music offering would be extended to MP3′s and AAC formats and video and game content would be added.

As part of this forward planning the design required engagement with various content providers to understand the size, shape and meta-data associated with different the content types the site needed to handle.
